Life’s most important lessons to teach children before age 18

Life’s most important lessons.  Please teach your children before they reach age 18.

Rich, poor, black white, red, yellow, brown, big, small, pretty, ugly, athletic, klutz, smart, dumb, gay, straight, immigrant, natural born, citizen or from another planet…

  • You do not Deserve respect.
Don’t ask for it, don’t complain about it.
  • Everything you have you owe to your ancestor’s efforts and those that came before you.  Don’t waste it.
(PS: your ancestors are not just your blood relatives)
  • You are better off now than those that came before you because of their efforts, not yours.
  • You are all equal (outside of obvious genetic differences) until you make yourself unequal.
Anyone who says different is lying for their own gain.
  • You will gain respect as you earn it.
You can’t possibly be disrespected if you never earn it.
  • The untimely use of superior strength does not gain you respect.  It gains fear.
The timely use of strength in defense will earn respect.
  • You have accomplished nothing on your own so far.  You have your whole life ahead of you to do so, it will go fast, don’t wait.
  • You always have opportunity.
Anyone who says different is lying for their own gain.
  • Pure Luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity.
    Be prepared.
  • You can make your life better than the next person.
That’s your job, no one else’s.
  • Never feel guilty for doing what is expected of you.
Never expect praise for doing what’s expected of you.  It’s your job, do it.
  • It’s not your fault or privilege for anything your ancestors may have done right or wrong.
  • You owe your ancestors respect because they earned it, and if you don’t think they earned it, then it’s your job to do better on your own and earn it so future generations will hold you in respect.
  • Being fair does not mean everyone’s outcome in life will be the same.
Your outcomes are your responsibility no one else.
  • You will make your life better when you earn it not when it’s given to you.

Oh…  and sometimes shit does just happen, but way more often than not it’s your fault no one else’s.  Unless of course if you were struck by lightning three times.  But then, what were you doing out in a thunderstorm on a golf course with an umbrella?  Three times!

No we were all not born equal or the same.  We were all born different.  For the most part, how we are treated in life by others will always be based on: our actions, our words, our own accomplishments, our treatment of others …not how, or where, or when, or to whom you were born.

You must teach your children these same lessons before they are 18.

…and

You must remember these same lessons at 80.  FGZ

I am an independent observer of life... amused and at the same time frightened by those who speak for the people and make no personal commitment to their stated beliefs. If you believe in global warming make a small personal carbon footprint don't force others. If you believe in freedom of speech, allow others to speak. Elected leaders, represent everyone not just your special interest groups. If you condemn racism don't tolerate it within your own race. If an opinion does not match yours, listen with an open mind you may be the one who is wrong.
